Sustainability

We believe sustainability and profitability go together, you cannot have one without the other. It is the way of the future and we have embraced it. That is why our focus is on sustainably grown roses.

We have a series of programs in sustainability that can be classified into two categories: environment and community. We believe these two pillars are essential for the success of any business. We understand we are part of a local and global ecosystem with which, we must coexist and thrive together.

 

Community Work:

We strongly believe in woman's empowerment, that is why we have several key roles were females are present and leading the company in both field and office. We have workshops about violence and gender discrimination against others, this has allowed us to promote key people to be leaders within our company and their local communities.

We also do work with the local community of El Boliche where we support the school in different activities, empowering and encouraging the future generation to do better. We also help the local community with free medical service at our farm's private clinic.

 

Sustainability is one of our essential pillars at the farm. Our work here consists of three main categories: water, flora & fauna preservation, and greenhouse gas compensation. 

Water:

Water is the most important thing for our business and the planet. Knowing that we have invested a considerable amount of time and resources into a series of tools. We have one of the most advanced post-harvest water recycling and cleaning systems in Ecuador with water recirculation and wetland filtration. We also collect rainwater, use drip irrigation and recycle all the water we can. Our mix of plants and greenhouses also allows us to make the most out of what we have.

 

CO2 Sequestration:

We have two major areas one that we call "infiernillo" that is near El Boliche, two hectares of undisturbed forest land that help us replenish and preserve the water basin of the region. Our second area is a 12-hectare forest near Cochasqui, a natural preserve that was grown by Lenin Ortiz, the father of one of our founders. This is where all the cultural preservation activities happen. Both areas have a minimum intervention with basic maintenance with an incredible amount of local flora and fauna including wild orchids and several local bush species.

Flora and Fauna Preservation:

It is important for us to coexist with the environment around us. We have several local species of plants such as mashua an Andean potato-like plant that not only helps us preserve local customs, feed our personnel and our dogs (they love to sneak some off and chew them). We also have plants and water sources around the farm that help us give bees and other animals a resting place. Our forests are also major areas for the preservation and fomentation of wild life.
